In one of the images I picked, this picture is of a girl with the words "thin" on the page. This picture was used for a documentary on HBO about the realities of eating disorders among pre-teen girls and how they are effected by the media's eye. Which I also think this picture could also tie into another theme of self image which I think this picture is a huge part of. The girl in the photo has a blank look across her face as if she was looking for someone that she needs to please or as if she is trying to define her own image. In this case with the photo it seems like the media's influence effected her and got the worst of her which is what the media does a lot of the time to many young adults and even adults.

The image i am using is a cartoon by Eric Olson. The man is sitting on a step in his basement where there must have been a leak of some sort which flooded the basement. He is holding a wrench possibly meaning he will attempt to fix a leak or caused it. He seems droopy or lethargic and we can see his reflection in the pool of water. The caption below the pictrue states, "This will be a wonderful day for self reflection." This image at face value can be read as the man finds it to be a good day to look at his reflection in the pool of water. What i get from this image, which can tie into my essay is the man can use this day to reflect on himself, his life, his day. This unexpected episode causes him to take a step out of his own agenda and take a look at what is going on in his life.

I found my image to really inspire me towards the making of my essay in wich it reveals the status of the polar bears on thin ice, in danger of drowning. I found this picture in the daily mail website, i really put it in mind that due to global warming such things are happening that not many of us take in mind. Due to the atmosphere being thikend by pollution the temperatures are rising causing such things to occur.

The image I am using is here: http://maxweber.hunter.cuny.edu/pub/eres/EDSPC715_MCINTYRE/sbAngelDevil.jpg
The image is of a person with a devil and and angel in front of him. I am going to use it to demostrate that people will displace responsibility involved with choices to others. The man in the pic will say the devil or the angel made him do it.

I don't know when the image was first posted or what limations it has on it. i just thought it fit in with my paper very well.

I couldn't find a link to the image I'm using, but I suppose I can describe it the best I can. the image is of an Indian woman in her seventies. she is dressed in traditional robes and has a smile that is enchanting. The image is so warm and happy and welcoming that it makes her look beautiful and gracious. I'm not sure who took the photo, but he did it for national geographic. What really impacted me is how happy she was affected how beautiful she was. she was'nt worried about make up, she was just happy to have her picture taken. and it shows

Le Guin's piece can easily be compared to a lot of the stuff that we have read this semester. The piece that I think that this is most comparable is "The Perils of Obedience". I feel that these pieces are very comparable because they both have to do with obedience. They both deal with the topic of obedience in different way's, in Le Guin's piece people break the mold and leave, and in Milgram's piece no one breaks the mold.

LeGuin's piece can be easily compared to a number of the other pieces we've read this semester, but in particular I like doing so with Milgram's "The Perils of Obedience," due to the fact that the people of Omelas seem willing to follow without question whoever decided to lock up the child or keep it locked up. The action/inaction of these people parallels nicely with the subjects described in Milgram's essay. At least a few of the people in Milgram's piece felt as though they were contributing to the greater good by following through with the experiment, even if it meant hurting others, just like the people in Omelas.

LeGuin’s piece, “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” , i think ties in best with Milgram’s piece “The Perfils of Obedience.” In both essays, there is a chosen person being tortured, there is also people who "have" to do the torturing and a that keep the followers in line to continue the torturing. In LeGuin’s piece the little child was locked away was subject to torment. However, in Milgram’s piece, the "student" is being tortured by the "teacher". Both groups, the "teachers" and the citizens of omalas, were committing these acts of torture at someone elses instruction.

When I read this piece it reminded me of "Rodriguez". They are both about language. These two individuals in a way feel out of place in the enviroment they are in because of the language barriers. They both try to in some way fit in to what is expected.
